Situated in Milfield Village, a classic stone building dating back to the mid 1700's. Originally frequented by the Sheep Drovers of the northern counties and became a major resting point for the Mail Stage Coach carrying passengers and mail between Edinburgh and London. Home to the village leek club and host to other groups like the Borders Gliding Club who operate from the Air Field, used as a training base for pilots during World War II. Diners can be assured of wholesome home cooked food, freshly prepared using locally sourced seasonal ingredients. Relax and indulge on such treats as honey roast pork belly, homemade steak and ale pie or pan fried salmon fillet, with garlic king prawns, followed by decadent homemade desserts. We have a traditional roast carvery offered every Sunday.

🚧 ROADWORKS ON THE A697 – PLEASE ALLOW EXTRA TIME! 🚧

Northumberland County Council will be carrying out essential roadworks on the A697 between Milfield Village and Cornhill from Monday 12th to Saturday 17th October.

The road will be closed between 8pm and 6am, Monday to Saturday, with the works taking place in sections. Depending on which section is being worked on, diversions may be in place via Kimmerston or Lanton, so please allow a little extra time for your journey.

🍻 The Red Lion is OPEN as usual! You can still get to us, but your usual route may take a little longer.

Last week we had the absolute joy of experimenting in the kitchen for BEAN FEST 🫘🫛

We put together a feast for the fabulous team of gardeners who have spent the season planting, growing, nurturing and then harvesting a huge selection of produce, giving us the perfect opportunity to showcase just how much incredible food is being grown right here in Milfield 🌱

Our spread featured an amazing variety of homegrown produce, including:

🥒 Squash
🫘 Borlotti beans
🫛 Runner beans
🌱 Broad beans
❤️ Beetroot
🥕 Carrots
🌿 And plenty more!

We also made the most of the fresh herbs growing in our own garden to bring everything together.

It was such a lovely evening celebrating the hard work, generosity and community spirit behind all this wonderful produce. Local food, grown by local people, shared around a table — what could be better? 💚

💚🥾 Good luck to Laura & Chloe! 🥾💚

Today, two very special members of our Red Lion team, Laura and Chloe are taking on an incredible challenge!

They’re tackling the Mighty Hike, walking a whopping 26 miles along the beautiful Northumberland coast from Bamburgh to Alnwick to raise money for a fantastic cause. 🌊💪

That’s a serious amount of walking, and we couldn’t be more proud of you both! We hope the legs hold out, the blisters stay away and some encourage from us….there’s a well earned pint waiting for you to celebrate! 🍻
