This is Wheatsheaf cottage. It sits opposite our delightful Egton cottage but is on a much bigger scale. It has 4 bedrooms so can sleep 8 and bags full of charm and character. It occupies prime position in the rural village of Egton in the North Yorkshire moors. The outside very much looks like this but the inside needs some purely cosmetic tlc. Thanks to the power of AI we can give you a sneaky peak of what we intend of create. Hopefully we will have put our paint brushes down be able to offer this property to guests early in the new year.

Some of our followers may have noticed that the name of our page has changed. In truth when we set up this page we were just Pear Tree cottage. Since 2020 we have grown in a way that we never envisioned.

We are now 3 York based properties, 3 North Yorkshire moors properties and 1 costal property, with more to come soon.

When thinking of an umbrella to put all this under only one name sprang to mind. “Myrtle House” is where it all began many many years ago. The very first house/home we bought together. We renovated that house with our own hands. Our very own blood sweat and tears were ingrained in every corner. We got engaged there, we got ready for our wedding there, began our family there and survived lockdown there. 13 wonderful years of memories. In 2020 we left and moved on, a sad but exciting new venture. Our family has now gown to 5 plus an airbear (who thinks he is human) and our business has gown, but we never forget the foundation of it all and that is where Myrtle comes from the recognition of the start of it all.
Happy Father’s Day everyone from our family to yours.

Medieval plays on wooden wagons. A 50th-anniversary music festival in a twelfth-century church. Open-air concerts with the ruins of a Benedictine abbey behind the stage. Dragon boats on the River Ouse.
York in July 2026 is not a day trip.
From the Mystery Plays rolling through fourteenth-century streets on 28 June through to the Dragon Boat Race on 12 July, there is more happening in this city this summer than most people realise.
Some of it is free. All of it requires a date in the diary.
Full guide in the comments.
