Having traveled extensively, staying in all sorts of places, we thought we’d take all those ideas we gathered to create our own Boutique cottages just East of York that are luxurious, unique, very private and decorated with antiques and paintings.

🥂 SEPTEMBER: FOR THE NEWLYWEDS & THE HAPPILY ESTABLISHED ❤️

The kids are back at school, the roads are quieter and September is looking rather lovely.

2026 marks 25 years of marriage for us, and we feel incredibly lucky in life. So we thought we’d share a little of that good fortune by giving 25% OFF.

For September stays of 4 nights or more, enjoy 25% OFF any of our cottages.

💷 25% OFF
🥂 Code: SILVER25

There are just 6 vouchers available…one for each year we were together before we finally got married. Six years of waiting… apparently we were quite good at taking things slowly. 😂

Whatever your relationship status, newlywed, happily established, happily single or somewhere in between, why not come and slow things down for a few days?

Explore , wander the countryside, eat rather well, find a good pub and enjoy the area at a more leisurely pace.

As Ferris Bueller said:

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” ❤️

So come and stop for a while.

Collect memories, not things.

Just don’t take six years to decide… there are only 6 vouchers and they disappear on 26 September! 😉

Lovely morning pottering around Visit Malton One of those mornings where you pop out for a couple of bits and somehow come home with enough food to cater for a small wedding. 😂

Bumped into a few friends along the way, including Gilly The Cook’s Place picked up some rather lovely arrangements from The Topiary Tree Florist for an event on Monday thanks for the hound treats Gemma along with a few bits from Food 2 Remember and, as is compulsory whenever the hounds are involved, a lovely treat of prime mince, thanks Paul🐾

Then, walking past Malton Fisheries, we spotted some rather magnificent Whitby lobsters and prawns. Well… that was tonight sorted. There was clearly no point resisting. 🦞🍤

Tonight’s culinary extravaganza is actually about as complicated as making toast. Prawns sizzling away in extra virgin olive oil with garlic, shallots, chilli and parsley, alongside lobster with lashings of garlic butter.

And because apparently lobster and prawns on their own might suggest we’re trying to keep things too simple, there’s also an homemade breadstick with rosemary and truffle oil. Because why wouldn’t there be? 😂

Naturally, this requires a little Keith Floyd-style supervision, which obviously means a drink in hand while cooking. Strictly for quality control purposes. 🍾

And what better accompaniment than some Goodwood Gin and V***e Clicquot Official bubbles. Because if you’re going to cook something simple, you may as well drink something glamorous.

really is best.

Although the hounds may disagree… they’re still waiting for their second course. 😂🐾🦞with a finish in the

🎶 **Working 9 to 5…** except, around here, it’s more a case of working whenever the guests need us! 😂

We’ve had lots of guests recently asking what goes on behind the scenes of our little experience business, so we thought we’d share a glimpse into the glamorous world of luxury holiday cottages, with the help of Nicola, Tammy and Clare!

There are enquiries, requests and messages coming in at all times of day, from wherever we happen to be, thank goodness for apps! 📱

Then, with our brilliant team and suppliers, it’s guest arrivals, stays and check-outs.

Duvets, pillows and cushions are tucked away in sanitised plastic boxes for their little spell in quarantine or hibernation.

Hot tubs are emptied, cleaned, refilled, chemically balanced and tested, with records kept… because apparently even bubbles come with paperwork, as does electricity, heating and security! 😂

Then there’s the laundry drops, come rain or shine, as Washing Well discovered this morning! Spare glasses and crockery, cleaning supplies and, between guests, if it isn’t nailed down, there’s a fair chance it’s going through the dishwasher! 😂

Add in Trevor and the grounds to maintain.

And, of course, Harry gets involved too. Harry is our trusted Hoover. Actually, we have several Harrys. We like to think of them as the clone wars against dust and dirt. 😂

So whilst it might look like we spend our days sitting in hot tubs admiring the view, the reality is a little more phones, washing, water testing, dishwasher marathons and cloned Hoovers!

Definitely not 9 to 5… but we wouldn’t have it any other way. ❤️

And, of course, we’re incredibly grateful to all our guests, not just for choosing to stay with us, but for the money they spend supporting our small rural community, local businesses and brilliant suppliers too. ❤️

🏡 THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE BOOKINGS ❤️

One of the things we absolutely LOVE about our cottages is the incredible people we get to meet and the stories they bring with them. ❤️

Today we said goodbye to some very special returning guests who came back for a little peace, relaxation and time away.

Over the years, we’ve watched their family grow from GCSEs, to A Levels and now university. 🥹❤️

This time, Mum and Dad offered the children the option of coming along…

They politely declined. 😂 Apparently, a few days away with Mum, Dad and the hounds 🐾🐾 isn’t quite as exciting as it used to be!

Although, there was one VERY important emergency…an early checkout for mum and dad!

⛺️ A TENT POLE NEEDED REPAIRING! 🤣

Because preparation clearly waits for no one. A Levels can wait. The tent cannot! 😂❤️

Meanwhile, we’ve had the absolute pleasure of welcoming three generations of a family from Australia 🇦🇺 who have travelled halfway around the world to discover their family roots and visit the places where their father, grandfather and great grandfather was born.

And THIS is exactly why we love what we do. ❤️

One family returns year after year and we get to watch their story unfold, even if the children are now apparently far too busy for a break with Mum and Dad… leaving the dogs to get all the attention! 😂🐾

Another family travels thousands of miles to discover where their own story began.

Every guest brings something different.

Every stay has a story.

And we feel incredibly privileged to be part of them. ❤️

Collect memories, not things. ❤️

As many of you will know, we’re a little obsessed with music, and our taste is pretty broad! From classical, ballet and opera to blues, country, dance, trance and covers… CDs, vinyl, concerts, theatre and musicals, we genuinely love the lot! Hence Lola Summerhouse is decorated the way it is! 🎶😂

The scale of talent was quite simply off the scale. So it was incredibly sad to hear of her passing just now. But Dolly was so much more than an extraordinary singer and songwriter. She was a formidable businesswoman, fiercely protective of what she created, deeply caring towards her siblings, incredibly generous through her charitable work and, despite all her success, never forgot her roots., talk about rags to riches!
Jo Whiley BBC Radio 2 One of our favourite Dolly stories is when wanted to record I Will Always Love You. Colonel Tom Parker demanded 50% of the publishing rights, and Dolly said no. She said she cried all night over the opportunity she was turning down, but knew she had to protect her most valuable work. What a businesswoman!

And thankfully, she did get to sing with another legend, Kenny Rogers and record one of our absolute favourite songs, Islands in the Stream. ❤️ but again this was purely by accident!

A phenomenal talent, incredible entrepreneur, wonderful and genuinely generous human being. She gave so much to music, to her family and to others.

RIP Dolly. What an extraordinary legacy. 🎶❤️ Dolly Parton

Planes, trains and automobiles… because apparently one mode of transport is never enough for us! 😂✈️🚂🚗

A lovely weekend starts with some of our oldest and dearest friends, and we’ve already arrived to a rather unexpected but lovely surprise for our Silver Wedding Anniversary… let’s just say there were a few photographs from over the years that probably should have remained safely hidden! 😂🥂

Then came the caviar, plenty of catching up and reminiscing about the last 30+ years.

There’s also a bit of food tasting and planning to do for their wedding bash at Goodwood, plus guests of Oracle Red Bull Racing F1 on Sunday🏎️🥂

And who’d have thought that, over three decades after we first met, we’d end up standing side by side chopping home-grown shallots together! 😂

Here’s to old friends, new memories, questionable photographs, good food and a weekend of being here, there and everywhere! 🥂❤️

A rather splendid day at the Festival at York Races yesterday! 🏇🥂

Always lovely to see our neighbour from the next village, the Countess of Halifax, with Her Majesty Queen Camilla, Patron of York Racecourse. 👑

And if you’re heading to York Races, our cottages are just a short taxi ride from the racecourse, close enough for all the excitement, but far enough away afterwards to escape the hustle, bustle and, depending on your betting, the financial trauma! 😂

Back at the cottage, it’s peace, tranquillity, a glass of something chilled and a soak in the hot tub. The perfect antidote to a day at the races.

And yesterday? The betting gods were clearly feeling generous…

A WIN IN EVERY RACE! 🏆🍾

We’ll obviously be available for racing tips from now on. Our rates may have gone up considerably. 😂

Lovely lunch at home with fab friends… cheeky for a Monday! 🍷

One of our oldest friends, dating right back to school days… which, now we’re firmly in the ‘adulting’ stage of life, seems like an awfully long time ago! 😂

Today was proof that simple really is best, meat paella, home-baked bread and good friends.

Peter Mayle had A Year in Provence and all his talk of home-cooked, seasonal food and pop-up restaurants… well, frankly, he’s got nothing on us.

A Year in Skirpenbeck. 🇬🇧😂

The bread was about as simple as it gets…flour, water, yeast, salt and an egg.

The paella? Well… we can’t quite claim the rice, saffron, chorizo, peppers or lemon as local. But the tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, herbs, chicken and beef all travelled less than five miles. 🌿🐔🐄

Even the stock was made the traditional way …without cubes, because apparently we’re taking this local-living thing VERY seriously. 😂

Most of us were extremely strong-willed and stuck firmly to the water… although one of us did bravely undertake extensive research into some vin rouge. 🍷

Good food. Old friends. Home cooking. A Monday afternoon completely lost.

Simple really is best. ❤️

🌧️ Can anyone tell us what this wet stuff is?

It’s been so long since we’ve seen it, we’re not entirely sure what to do with it. 😂

It’s on the table.
It’s on the patio.
It’s fallen from the sky.

And look… the sun is trying to get through. ☀️

Honestly, Yorkshire. Make your mind up.

Still, if you’re coming to stay with us, don’t worry…we’ve checked…

Our cottages are still lovely in the rain and each has their private which are just the best with this climate…THE BEST! 😉
