A Grade II-listed Victorian hotel perfectly situated in the heart of York city centre, offering stunning views of York Minster and adjacent to the train station.

Today, The Milner York turns two and that means it’s time for our annual excuse to pop the confetti cannons.

Our building first opened in 1878. In October 2024, it began a new chapter as The Milner York, named in honour of William Milner, the York station foreman during the Second World War. During an air raid, he gave his life while securing vital medical supplies. He was posthumously awarded the King’s Commendation for Gallantry, and his courage remains an important part of who we are.

The warm welcome we’ve received over these past two years means so much to us. We’re grateful to everyone who’s been part of the journey, and especially to our wonderful team for bringing The Milner York to life every day.

This World Architecture Day, we’re celebrating the Victorian details that have welcomed our guests since 1878.

Designed by William Peachey, our hotel captures the grandeur of an era when railway travel called for a memorable arrival, from our striking façade to our sweeping iron staircases.

Peachey’s, our restaurant, bears his name in tribute to the architect who shaped our hotel.

Almost 150 years later, we still believe arriving should feel special.
