A birthday foraging walk for Howard our customer today .
His wife got him a surprise wild food walk gift voucher and we managed to plan it to happen on his actual birthday, today. Not only that the sunshine was amazing and our lovely canal looks particularly pretty in the sun . Walking by the canal in June we did of course meet Himalayan balsam, meadowsweet was in flower , plus lots of other plants to share.
Part of the walk involves collecting examples to bring back to base and plot on a large piece of paper . Our guests have to label them and usually manage with a tiny bit of help. We then ask which three plants they would like to use this year and encourage focus on these three .
In permaculture ; small and slow solutions are more sustainable over time. It’s easier to maintain a journey and not give up if you digest the chunks in small pragmatic bits then add to it each year.
