თეიმურაზ ბატონიშვილის ცნობით, ერეკლე II-ს მრავალი ციხე-სიმაგრე აუგია, მაგრამ მათგან ყოველთა უმჯობესი და უმტკიცესი ქალაქ სიღნაღის გალავანი ყოფილა.

მისი განმარტებით, ფრიად მაღალი, სქელი და დიდ-დიდი ბურჯებით ნაშენი ქვითკირის ზღუდე ესოდენ დიდ არს, რომ მტრის შემოსევისას სრულიად ქიზიყისა და მიმდგომ მხარეთა მცხოვრებთაგან 20 ათასამდე კომლის დატევა შეუძლია.

ეს რიცხვი ალბათ 100-დან 200 ათასამდე ადამიანს გულისხმობდა, რაც მართლაც, XVIII საუკუნეში მთელი რეგიონის მოსახლეობის რაოდენობა უნდა ყოფილიყო.

According to Prince Teimuraz Bagrationi, Erekle II, King of Kartli and Kakheti (Eastern Georgia) had built a lot of fortresses but the firmest and the best of them all was the fence of the city of Signaghi.

He explains that extremely high and mortared stone walls were built with very big piers. Fence was so huge that during the enemy invasion, it could find a room for 20 thousand households from the inhabitants of Qiziki (region in Kakheti) and bordering lands.

This number probably implied 100-200 thousand people which could be the whole population of the region in the 18th century.

“Such fortress can never be found in any of Iberian (=Georgian) countries” – says Teimuraz, the grandchild of king Erekle about the defensive walls of the Signaghi.
