🎨 Front doors of Tbilisi: kaleidoscope house

To find an amazing house with stained-glass windows, you need to go out to Asatiani Street, go down to the river, to the Kala area until the intersection with Betlemskaya Street. And find shiny glass among the houses.

🏠 Although the house is ancient, dating back to the first half of the 19th century, this front door has no historical value, but it has original beauty and the same atmosphere of Old Tbilisi.

People call this wooden front door a “kaleidoscope” because of the colored stained-glass windows. In addition to stained-glass windows, there is a large, beautiful balcony with a carved canopy and railings.

📍 Entrance to the front door is free; on the second floor there is now a shop with handmade products. Address: Betlemskaya st. d.3.

🍲 Despite the fact that it may seem that khinkali are not much different. However, in Georgia this dish has many different variations, and here are some of them!

🔹Kalakuri - with meat and herbs (cilantro)
🔸Mtiuluri - with meat without greens
🔹Kazbeguri - with minced meat
🔸Kakhuri - with pork
🔹There are also khinkali with beef, lamb, cheese, potatoes, and mushrooms.

🤌🏻 Khinkali is eaten with your hands. You need to grab the tail, turn it over, bite a little and drink the broth, and only then eat the dough and filling. It is not customary to use a fork and knife, just like pouring broth onto a plate. The tails are not eaten, but left on the plate.

Georgians also say that you should not drink khinkali with wine. Try and decide for yourself 😉

Trdelnik in Tbilisi 🥐

Trdelnik, or as it is called differently, trdlo, is a yeast tube into which various fillings, ice cream, creams, candied fruits and nuts, sprinkles, and syrups are added.

🥨 Traditionally, the trdelnik recipe came from the Czech Republic, and now this dessert is popular in Tbilisi. There are often long lines at Lumier's Chimney Cake shops that serve trdelnik. But rest assured, it will be worth the wait!

The guys changed the culture of wine consumption in Tbilisi. Their approach to choosing the target audience was revolutionary; the first boutique opened not in a tourist center: “We believe that local residents are the main connoisseurs of Georgian wine.” Initially, the wine library’s assortment included only wines from boutique farms, which were collected throughout the country.

The natural wine bar in the basement with brick vaulted ceilings can rightfully be called a local landmark. It opened before 8000 Vintages, about ten years ago, so a modest audience of wine connoisseurs used to only go there. Now most of the guests are tourists, after all, the bar is located in the very center near Freedom Square.

⛰ One of the hallmarks of Tbilisi is the Narikala Fortress, located in the heart of the city!

🏰 About history: Narikala Fortress is one of the oldest and most famous sights of Tbilisi. It was built in the 4th century and served as a defense of the city for a long time, went through many events, survived destruction and restoration. Today it stands as a symbol of Georgian fortitude and the revival of culture.

📸 What to do: Walk along the ancient walls and enjoy the stunning views of the city. Inside the fortress there is the Church of St. Nicholas, and you can continue your walk in the Botanical Garden, where you can relax, enjoy nature and take beautiful photos.

🌸 Botanical Garden: The Botanical Garden is a real oasis of greenery. Here you can find a wide variety of plants, flowering gardens and beautiful alleys. Walking along the paths of the garden, you can also enjoy waterfalls.

🚶 How to get there: Narikala Fortress is located on top of a hill and can be reached on foot or by funicular. The way up from the city center takes about 20 minutes, but is worth every step. The funicular is located next to Rike Park, from the cabin you can explore the Sololaki area with old houses. The park can be reached by metro station “Liberty Square”.
