A productive economy must first be built on a secure food supply.

That was one of the key points discussed during the Fireside Chat between UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce (UKGCC) Executive Director, Adjoba Kyiamah, and the Presidential Adviser on the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development (24H+), Augustus “Goosie” Tanoh, at the Ghana-UK Investment Summit in London from 1-2 June 2026.

Mr. Tanoh explained that food security is a critical foundation for the success of the 24-Hour Economy. Beyond feeding the population, Ghana must produce enough surplus to supply industries, support value addition and create opportunities for export.

As part of this vision, an investor is developing a 60,000-hectare palm plantation expected to generate 250,000 tonnes of crude palm oil and palm kernel oil. The project is structured to meet domestic demand while also targeting regional opportunities, including Nigeria’s palm oil market, which currently faces a significant supply deficit.

By achieving food self-sufficiency and creating agricultural surpluses, Ghana can strengthen local industries, reduce reliance on imports and build a stronger export base.
