The other day, I asked a friend if they knew the difference between tattoos and semi-permanent makeup tattoos(microblading).
Their response? “Aren’t they the same thing?”
I was utterly shocked !
Then I quickly realized that many people might not know the distinction, so let’s break it down 👇🏼
Permanent Makeup (PMU) vs. Tattoos:
1. Depth of Pigment:
- PMU: The pigments in permanent makeup are implanted into the upper dermis, just below the basal membrane.
- Tattoo: Tattoo ink is deposited into the deeper layers of the dermis.
2. Longevity:
- PMU: Typically lasts 1-3 years, fading over time as the skin naturally regenerates.
- Tattoo: Permanent and lasts a lifetime, though it may fade and blur over the years.
3. Pigments Used:
- PMU: Uses pigments designed to fade over time and are often made from materials that are safe for facial application.
- Tattoo: Uses permanent inks that are intended to remain vivid and bright.
4. Procedure:
- PMU: Usually performed with a digital machine or manual tool and is more superficial.
- Tattoo: Done with a tattoo machine that injects ink deeper into the skin.
5. Pain and Healing:
- PMU: Generally less painful and has a quicker healing time.
- Tattoo: Can be more painful and has a longer healing process.
Putting this out there so that the next time someone asks you if there’s a difference between tattoos and semi-permanent makeup, you’ll have all the facts! 🌟
