When the views are the first course 🇬🇷
📍Alali Restaurant Santorini Santorini
Perched on the rim of Santorini’s caldera in Akrotiri, Alali Restaurant at Astarte Suites takes its name from the Greek word for “speechless.” The views explain why.
From cliffside and poolside tables you look out across the vast, deep-blue Aegean. The caldera drops away beneath you toward the dark volcanic islands of Nea Kameni and Palea Kameni. White cruise ships sometimes drift across the water like slow-moving lanterns. In late afternoon the light turns honey-gold, then rose and violet as the sun sinks behind the opposite rim. The infinity pool in front of the tables mirrors the sky so the horizon seems to dissolve.
Glass doors and open terraces frame the scene without interrupting it. Cycladic white walls and simple tables keep the eye on the water and the changing colors of the sky. At night the caldera becomes a dark bowl of stars; by day it is an endless stretch of blue that makes conversation pause. Guests repeatedly describe the panorama as breathtaking, dazzling, and the reason the restaurant’s name feels earned. The food is contemporary Mediterranean, but the view is the first course.
