The city is still carrying the pace of the day. Conversations begin to unfold as early cocktails arrive. Among them, “Meltemi”, vodka infused with green apple, melon liqueur, and ouzo, lifted by lime, honey, and a light veil of pineapple and cucumber foam. Cool and sharp. In 1973, TWA’s Getaway Guide to Athens recommended staying at the Olympic Palace Hotel on Filellinon 16, praising its “modern furniture”, marble bathrooms and floral wallpaper, markers of a distinctly contemporary hospitality experience for its time.

Fifty years later, Monocle’s Athens Guide returns to the very same address, now home to New Hotel, describing it as “a whimsical manifestation of the Campana Brothers’ idiosyncratic style”. Different eras, different expressions of modernity, the same address continuing to shape the way Athens welcomes the world.
