Two couples flew in from New Zealand and eleven days later, the only complaint was that it ended.
Everything was sorted the day before they rode; documents, routes, a 20-page handbook and GPS all handed over in Athens, so the morning of departure was just a quick walk around the bikes and go. From there it was mountain passes into lush valleys, hardly a metre of motorway, and a hand-picked hotel with breakfast waiting at the end of each day.

This 10-day self-guided motorcycle tour follows a route we’ve refined over a decade of guiding groups through Greece’s northwestern mountain ranges. It moves progressively from the recognized landmarks of central Greece into the Pindus mountains – remote, technically demanding terrain that remains largely unknown to international riders.

The route begins at Delphi and Meteora, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites that serve as entry points to increasingly isolated territory. From Meteora, you’ll ride north into Zagoria, then deeper into the Tzoumerka range – areas where you may encounter more livestock than vehicles on narrow mountain roads.

This is not coastal Greece. The Pindus range defines the riding: continuous switchbacks, sustained gradients, and sections where road conditions reflect the realities of maintaining infrastructure in extreme alpine environments. Riders consistently report being surprised by both the landscape and the technical demands of these routes.

If you’re an experienced rider looking for sustained mountain riding in terrain that doesn’t match typical expectations of Greece, this tour delivers that experience across 10 days of progressive challenge.

Islands. Blue water. Ancient temples. That's what the world knows. What it doesn't: tens of thousands of kilometres of mountain routes that rival anything in the Alps. And almost nobody riding them. For decades, riders headed to the Dolomites, the Pyrenees, the Stelvio. Those places rightfully earned their reputation. Greece's motorcycling routes never made it into the touring magazines. Claude and MJ rode with us for 11 days and said we over-delivered. David spent 10 days on an F800GS and called it excellent, start to finish. Both came back. Neither hesitated to recommend.
