During renovation and while removing the more recent layers of wall paint at “The Sonnet”, a big surprise was waiting.

Our art conservators advised that what we found was a hand-painted wood imitation, dated back in 1920. Apparently, the style was typical for the decoration of wooden doors and interior frames of neoclassical buildings, however more rarely to interior walls.

Our specialist decorators restored what was revealed in 2019, and not the original image of the wall when it was firstly decorated in 1920. The “imperfections” of the wall were restored along with the wall itself, demonstrating the 100-year architectural history of the building.
