At the summit of Lycabettus, Agios Georgios has one of the most unusual addresses in Athens. The small whitewashed church dates to the late 18th century, though the site has a much older story: an ancient altar to Zeus once stood here, followed by an earlier Christian chapel. Today, the church sits quietly above the city, its dome and bell tower set against the Athenian sky. It’s a fitting place to pause and look back at a city built in layers.
