Farm to Table: Cooking Meze with Effi 🍅🍆🍋
Join us for a walk through our orchard and surrounding nature to see what the Cretan land has to offer. Depending on the season, we collect fruits, wild herbs and vegetables.
Afterwards, we go to our open air kitchen to cook traditional Cretan meze, eat, and drink raki or wine! Because, as the old folks used to say, raki and wine go well with any meze, but even more so with good company! 🍷
If someone visits Crete and doesn’t sit with a group of different people to drink wine or raki, eat Cretan meze, talk, joke, and laugh from the heart, it’s as if they never came to Crete at all.
Through this beautiful activity, we will do exactly what our grandmothers and grandfathers did every day—especially when they were expecting good company!

Come and make our own traditional bread and cheese. 🥖🧀
Our cook, Irini, takes us on a journey into the past, when every woman used to prepare her family's daily bread herself. First, she shows us how to knead and then how to bake bread in the wood-fired oven. And when it is time for our dinner, it will be accompanied by our freshly baked loaves. When our sheep produce fresh milk, we also make our own local cheese, the only cheese that we can taste warm, straight out of the cauldron.

Meet our producer, Tasos Trigonis.
"I was born in Trikala in 1984. I studied Sociology and Modern History at Panteion University. In 2012, my family began producing certified organic products with the aim of promoting the food heritage of our region. In mainland Greece, northwest of the city of Trikala in Thessaly, in strictly selected plots of land in the villages of Megarchi, Kaloneri, and Vytoumas, we cultivate traditional varieties of seeds—such as lentils, chickpeas, beans, black beans, fava beans, wheat, corn, and sesame seeds—using natural and organic methods."

Join our tour guide on a excursion into the wild nature of the Cretan mountains ⛰️
We walk along a dirt road that leads us to the mountain, into a beautiful landscape where Panousis, our shepherd, takes care of his flock next to the Mitato (a stone, domed structure, built without mortar). We will enjoy the view of the mountains and the coastline of Rethymno.
At the Mitato, we have a wonderful meal prepared for us on the fire by Afroditi, the shepherd’s wife. We rest until we start our way back. 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️
