The Hotel owes its name to Italian mathematician, astronomer and humanist Francesco Barozzi who in his 1577 travelogues has written about the neighborhood by referring to it as Gerona. Gerani beach is also internationally known as a protected Caretta Caretta seaturtle nesting site whilst it is conveniently located between the beaches of Maleme and Platanias.
