Sunset and crashing waves therapy! When we get the north wind across the Sea of Crete, we get waves, and it makes for some mesmerising sunsets. Best experienced in person whilst sitting on a warm rock and feeling the sea spray 🌊 🌊 🌊

We have our Blue Flag flying high on the beach today! In order to qualify for the Blue Flag award, educational, safety, and accessibility criteria must be met and maintained. We're glad to have been awarded this prestigious flag for so many years here in Stavros bay. 🏖️🐬

Our Booking.com Traveller Review Award score has gone up this year to 9.3 and we've just passed our COVID training exam from the University of Crete. Glad to be providing a comfortable and safe experience for our holidaying guests 🌞 @ Alexis Apartments

At last! We are open 😁 Flights are arriving, the beach is in full swing, the restaurants and cafes are serving, the sun is hot, the sea is cool. We look forward to seeing all who can come this year for a much deserved break away from home. 🎉🍻🌅🏖️

Fragosika (φραγκοσύκα) are Cactus fruit or Prickly Pears which we have in abundance growing wild in Stavros bay. Locally known as Papoutsosika (Παπουτσόσυκα), they ripen right about now in late August when they turn yellow and a dark orange colour at the tips. They taste delicious (nothing like a pear... More like figs) and are notoriously difficult to pick. They are covered in ultra thin needles that cause immediate splinters if tried bare-handed, and you will need olive oil and cotton wool to coax the splinter back out again. Therefore, you must protect your fingers when you pick and when preparing them, remove the top and bottom of the fruit, cutting around the inside of its skin till the prize goodness is clear. Then you eat... I prefer in a smoothie or if I feel really crazy, with ice cream 🤪 🍧 @ Σταυρος Ακρωτηριου. Χανια

The mountain of Stavros bay. Mythology suggests it is the laid down body of the godess Hera, turned to stone by husband Zeus for moaning about his infidelities. Zeus supposedly regretted doing this so much so that he laid down at her feet and turned himself to stone too ... ⚡❤️🙄

A wonderful time last night with our guests the Sullo and Provvisiero families visiting from Naples. I was treated to a real Neapolitan meal; spaghetti, antipasto and bruschetta, fruit and then moka pot made coffee. Superb food and great company! 🍝🍠🍉☕🌜😁

Beach life 2019 in full swing! The water is just cool enough to refresh you from the heat. Nothing wrong with adding a cold beer or ice coffee to that mix 🏖️🍺🌞
