So in answer to the question posed recently: Do you need a car when staying at Villa Troodos ?

The answer is NO

☀️If you want a quiet week of sunbathing and studying / WFH with sunshine - you can absolutely manage without a car - by using an airport taxi service, getting supplies & food from the fabulous local shop run by and the village taverna in Kokkino Chorio

🌊A visit to the beautiful pebble cove of Koutalas is just a 20 minute walk away. Perfect for snorkelling.

🚖 The airport taxi - for a little extra - let them do a supermarket sweep on the way in 🛒

🥗Slightly longer walk of 40 minutes there’s the Tavernas in Drapanos & Plaka too. The generous chef at Eleonora’s ( Drapanos) even ran them home 🚙

🥙And on days they felt like a treat - many of the Tavernas in Almyrida and Kalives will deliver delicious gyros and restaurant food to your door. Thank you

🇬🇷They had a great time, met and chatted to more locals than if they’d had a car & the money saved from car hire was not far off what they spent on taxis.

🙌So a win win all round.

🚗 That said when they are 23 and legally able to hire a car - they look forward to exploring much more of this Magical island of Crete with

GREEK EASTER
In Greece Easter is as widely a celebrated a religious tradition as Christmas. This weekend is Greek Orthodox Easter in many Christian countries it was last weekend.

There are long held customs, rituals and it is deeply spiritual. These traditions are very much alive in Crete and most especially in Holy Week.

Many shops close although lots of places are still open .

Good Friday is a day of solemnity and the crucifixion is commemorated with most villages having a Good Friday Epitaph evening procession - an act of faith, remembrance & unity - all ahead of Easter Sunday Celebrations to come.

These photos are the little chapel of Ravdoucha where I did a lovely circular walk a couple of years ago.

Gavalohori Village
Another absolutely delightful Greek village just a 15 minute drive away from us in Kokkino Chorio .
Thought to be over 1000 years old and renowned for its deeply historical folklore culture.
Quirky little shops , lovely church & great authentic Cretan cuisine.
Fabulous little village to visit for half a day or more🇬🇷👌🏻☕️

WELCOME to new followers and welcome to our Cretan Villa home in the tranquil village of Kokkino Chorio. It’s just 10 minutes drive from Almyrida, Chania and 50 minutes from Chania airport.

Now available for summer 2026 -with private pool, dishwasher, washing machine etc sleeps 4 as a king and a twin, each bedroom with its own bathroom.
