There is another Greece waiting beyond Corfu. 🇬🇷🌊

International attention is beginning to discover what those who have visited Mathraki already know.

The Diapontia Islands offer something increasingly difficult to find: space, nature, simplicity and time.

No crowds to chase.
No packed itinerary required.
No need to experience the island at anyone’s pace but your own.

Walk beneath the olive trees. Explore the island by e-bike or electric golf cart. Swim from quiet beaches. Share a meal overlooking the Ionian Sea. Meet the people who call this tiny island home.

Mathraki isn’t trying to become another major tourist destination — and we hope it never does.

We believe the future of our island is small-scale, responsible and experience-led tourism that protects the character of Mathraki while helping keep our island alive.

Come for the stay — return for the experience. ❤️

A very special visit to Al Fresco Café yesterday. 🇬🇷🌿

We had the pleasure of welcoming Greece’s Minister of Tourism to Mathraki and to our little corner of the island at Al Fresco Café.

We were especially impressed by her warmth, intelligence and forward-thinking approach to Greek tourism. She noticed and appreciated the small details—the hospitality, the environment, the food, and the care that goes into creating an experience that feels connected to the place rather than separate from it.

For Ksenia and me, this is exactly what tourism on a small island like Mathraki should be about: quality over quantity, genuine human connection, respect for our natural environment, and tourism that helps keep an island alive.

It was particularly meaningful to share this moment beside one of our old olive trees that has been adopted through our Olive Tree Stewardship Program—a simple example of how a visitor’s relationship with Mathraki can continue long after their visit. 🌿

Minister, thank you for taking the time to visit us, to listen, and to understand what we are trying to build here.

We look forward to continuing the conversation and contributing, in our own small way, to a shared vision for the future of Greek tourism—especially for Greece’s smallest islands.

🌿 They Sailed From Italy to Discover a Secret Paradise

Sometimes the best journeys begin with a story shared between friends.

Lena & Jan from Sweden first heard about Mathraki from friends who had stayed with us before. Their stories about our little “secret paradise” were enough to inspire Lena & Jan to set sail from Italy aboard their own boat and discover the island for themselves. ⛵🇮🇹🇬🇷

They arrived as visitors.

They left with roots. 🌿

During their time with us, Lena & Jan chose to become part of the Mathraki Olive Tree Stewardship Program, adopting one of our mature olive trees and creating a connection with Mathraki that will continue long after their sail home.

This is the kind of tourism we believe in: people discovering a place through other people, forming genuine connections, and leaving knowing that a small part of the island is now part of their story too.

Thank you, Lena & Jan, for crossing the Ionian to find us—and for helping us care for something that has been growing here for generations.

Your olive tree will be waiting for you. ❤️🌿

🌿 Another Olive Tree Has Found Its Family

Some memories from a holiday eventually fade. Others put down roots.

After a wonderful week together on Mathraki, another family has chosen to become part of our Mathraki Olive Tree Stewardship Program, adopting one of our beautiful old olive trees.

Their message to us as they left said it best:

“Thank you again for a most wonderful and very special week — I hope to see you again sometime soon!” ❤️

And now they have another reason to return.

Their tree will remain here on Mathraki, cared for and growing year after year—a small, living connection between their family and our island.

Thank you for spending a week in our little world, for becoming part of our story, and especially for helping us care for the olive trees that have been part of Mathraki for generations.

Until we meet again. 🌿🇬🇷

⭐ 10/10 — but the score is only part of the story.

Another beautiful review, this time from Matthias and his family from Germany 🇩🇪, describing Nisaki Mathraki as:

“A familiar atmosphere in a secluded and extraordinary place.”

For us, hospitality has never been simply about providing a room.

It is about incredible people, simple human connections, and shared moments that become unforgettable experiences.

In our ever-changing world, these are the things we value most.

People arrive on Mathraki as guests. We share meals, stories, adventures, laughter and a little piece of island life together. And very often, by the time they leave, it feels much more like saying goodbye to friends.

Thank you, Matthias and family, for choosing our little island, for sharing your experience, and for becoming a small part of our Mathraki story. ❤️🇬🇷🇩🇪

Until we meet again.

Come as a guest. Experience the island. Leave as a friend.
