🚨 Look up tonight! The Moon is turning blood red. πŸŒ’πŸ”΄

Tonight into early Friday, a deep partial lunar eclipse will unfold as the Moon passes through Earth’s shadow. At its peak, a massive 96.3% of the lunar disk will plunge into the umbra, making this the absolute best lunar eclipse visible from the contiguous U.S. until 2029.

Because only a tiny sliver of the Moon will remain illuminated by direct sunlight, the shadowed portion will glow a striking orange, copper, or deep redβ€”closely resembling a total "blood moon."

Why the red glow?
The reddish color comes from sunlight passing through Earth’s atmosphere. Shorter blue wavelengths are scattered away, while red and orange light is bent toward the Moon. When you look at the red lunar surface tonight, you are seeing the combined glow of every single sunrise and sunset occurring around Earth at that exact moment.

When to watch the peak (Maximum Eclipse):

EDT: 12:13 a.m. (Friday)

CDT: 11:13 p.m. (Thursday)

MDT: 10:13 p.m. (Thursday)

PDT: 9:13 p.m. (Thursday)

(The partial phase begins about 1.5 hours before the peak and will last roughly 3 hours and 18 minutes in total.)

Viewing Tips:
Unlike a solar eclipse, a lunar eclipse is entirely safe to view with the naked eye. You do not need any special glasses. The event will be visible across most of North and South America, western Europe, and western Africa. It will even be visible from brightly lit cities, though grabbing a pair of binoculars or a telescope will reveal incredible detail along the shadow's edge.

🌍 SUPPORT US β€” SUPPORT THE ECOLOGICAL IMPACT AWARENESS FOR CORFU & THE DIAPONTIA ISLANDS 🌊 USE THE LINK IN THE COMMENTS BELOW πŸ‘‡

Many people may not realise just how close proposed offshore oil and gas exploration is to Corfu and the Diapontia Islands β€” Othonoi, Erikoussa and Mathraki.

πŸ›’οΈ Block 2 lies west/northwest of Corfu. Official project information places parts of the block approximately 7–10 km from the Diapontia Islands, with Corfu itself around 20–30 km away.

Environmental work is now connected with the proposed Asopus-1 exploration well, with possible appraisal wells to follow.

🐬 Why does this matter?

The waters around Corfu and the Diapontia Islands support marine mammals, sea turtles and seabirds, as well as protected Natura 2000 areas. Underwater noise, drilling activity and the potential consequences of an accidental hydrocarbon release are therefore issues that have to be properly assessed.

⚠️ It is important to stick to the facts.

There is currently no evidence that drilling will pollute Corfu's beaches or damage tourism, and it would be wrong to claim that an oil spill will happen.

However, deep-water hydrocarbon exploration this close to environmentally important islands means the potential risks deserve proper scrutiny, independent monitoring and complete transparency.

🏝️ For Othonoi, Erikoussa and Mathraki, this is particularly important because of their proximity to Block 2.

We aren't interested in scare stories. We want facts, transparency and protection for the marine environment that makes Corfu and its surrounding islands so special.

πŸ“š Read the official information for yourself in the comment's below πŸ‘‡

🌊 Corfu's sea belongs to future generations too. Whatever your opinion on offshore energy exploration, surely we can all agree that its ecological impact must be understood, monitored and openly discussed.

πŸ’¬ What do you think? Should offshore drilling be taking place this close to Corfu and the Diapontia Islands?

Please SHARE this post so more people living in and visiting Corfu understand what is being proposed. 🌊🏝️🐬
