Where the name Stravorina came from ?

Guess what.... from the Indo-Iranian mythology !

According to Barozzi in 1577, the first name of the village Kalo Chorio, where Villa Stravorin is located, was Stravorina. It is also mentioned in 1583 and until 1834.

We may identify a trace of the ancient Indo-Iranian mythology, because its ancient god of the sky and of the water, Varuna , is often presented with his weapon, "astra" a ‘projectile, javelin’ . Thus the compound astra-varuna is probably the direct origin of the place-name *Astra-Varuna > *Astra-Vorina > Stravorina . God Varuna is said to make the rains, the rivers . The town is situated between the springs of two tributaries of the river Aposelemis.
