19 Απρίλιου: Ημέρα Φιλελληνισμού & Διεθνούς Αλληλεγγύης

H ΕΕΦ και το Μουσείο Φιλελληνισμού / Philhellenism Museum τιμούν τους χιλιάδες Φιλέλληνες που προσέφεραν από την Ευρώπη και τις ΗΠΑ πολύτιμες υπηρεσίες στην Ελλάδα κατά την διάρκεια της Ελληνικής Επανάστασης και αγωνίσθηκαν για την ελευθερία της.

Ο Φιλελληνισμός έθεσε το 1821 σε νέες βάσεις τις έννοιες των ανθρωπίνων δικαιωμάτων, της διεθνούς αλληλεγγύης και ανέδειξε την Ελλάδα σε φάρο του δυτικού πολιτισμού.

Στις 19 Απριλίου οι Έλληνες και Φιλέλληνες τιμούν πρώτιστα τον μεγάλο ρομαντικό ποιητή Λόρδο Βύρωνα, που πρώτος οραματίσθηκε ότι “η Ελλάδα θα μπορούσε να είναι και πάλι ελεύθερη”, και τους χιλιάδες εθελοντές που προσέφεραν τη ζωή τους στα πεδία των μαχών και στις Ελληνικές θάλασσες.

Το Μουσείο Φιλελληνισμού έχει συγκροτήσει μία ομάδα αναβιωτών Φιλελλήνων οι οποίοι φορούν τις ακριβείς στολές της εποχής και φέρουν τα αυθεντικά όπλα των Φιλελλήνων.

Οι στολές και τα όπλα αποτελούν μέρος της συλλογής του Μουσείου και εκτίθενται σε αυτό.

April 19: Day of Philhellenism & International Solidarity

SHP and the Philhellenism Museum honor the thousands of Philhellenes who offered valuable services from Europe and the USA to Greece during the Greek War of Independence and fought for its freedom.

In 1821, Philhellenism laid new foundations for human rights, international solidarity and turned Greece to a beacon of Western civilization.

On April 19, Greeks and Philhellenes honor the great romantic poet Lord Byron, who first envisioned that "Greece might still be free again" and the thousands of volunteers who sacrificed their lives on the battlefields and in the Greek seas.

The Philhellenism Museum has formed a group of enactors who wear the exact uniforms of Philhellenes of the time and carry their authentic weapons.

The uniforms and weapons are part of the Museum's collection and are exhibited in it.

A large granite stone sits as a centrepiece of the British Museum. The monolith of stone, encased in glass, is one of the most viewed objects in the country. It is about three feet tall and two feet wide and weighs about 1600 pounds. But on the face of this rock are what seem to be three written languages. When looking at it without a trained eye, one could assume that they are all different but that is not the case. Two are Egyptian, one being hieroglyphs on top and demotic script in the middle. The third is Greek. This stone, that still sits in the British Museum is one of the most important French discoveries for the study of Egypt.
