Οn Saint George’s Day, a unique Meteora tradition comes alive at the Monastery of Saint George Mandilas in Kastraki.
According to a local legend, a soldier who collapsed near the village was healed after a scarf (mandila) was offered to Saint George and placed before his icon at the monastery. Since then, locals continue the tradition by hanging colorful scarves on the rock each year.
The custom is kept alive by young people from the village, alongside visitors from all over the world who come to witness this truly authentic moment in Meteora.
