Today, July 26th, the Greek Orthodox Church commemorates Saint Paraskevi, venerated as a Christian martyr of the 2nd century. She was arrested and tortured under the reign of the Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius for her refusal to worship idols. Though he eventually released her after she performed a miracle that cured him of his blindness, she was arrested on multiple later occasions for her Christianity and was eventually beheaded by the Roman governor Tarasius.

Saint Paraskevi is the most prominent among women healing saints, and she is widely venerated as the healer of the blind. For this reason, she is often depicted with two eyeballs in her hands.

Tonight in Ipsos harbour at the St. Paraskevi church, locals and tourists alike will pay respects to Saint Paraskevi, then enjoy a little fiesta, offering succulent souvlaki and refreshments, accompanied by live music and dancing.

On Monday, July 22nd at 9:15 pm the Association of Old Scouts of Corfu pays a musical tribute to the great Corfu actress and artist Rena Vlachopoulou.
Performing young musicians of the Old Philharmonic.
Opposite of the emblematic building of the Reading Society.
In this concert, follow the advice of Rena herself: "Let me close my eyes and see Corfu beautiful as it is..."
