October 28th 1940.
ΟΧΙ Day.

Greece 🇬🇷 is the only nation that celebrates not the end of WW2, but the beginning of it by saying NO!!!! We will NOT bow to threats!!!

Greek soldiers went to defend the Ideals of the Homeland, of Liberty and Freedom, with a smile in their faces and a celebrating mood!!!
The Heroic Mother's of the soldiers, gave them their blessings, and with prayers to God, sent their sons to defend our Country against the evilness that threatened our existence!

On October 28th, 1940, Greek Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas, rejected an ultimatum from Fascist Italy, which demanded free passage of Italian troops into Greece.
His refusal — symbolized by the single word “Ohi” (Όχι), meaning “No”....... led to Greece’s entry into World War II and the start of the Greco-Italian War.

You need to understand that Greece, my Home country, albeit "small" in nominal figures, with so many flaws and characteristics that embarrass us often, has ONE very special feature that makes the definitive change in the end.
We Greeks, Love our Country, we Love our Freedom, we Love our History, our Traditions, and our unwritten Future; Historically, we even love fighting amongst ourselves sometimes; but don't make the mistake of believing that when History is being written, we are taken for granted, or that we will bow to threats, regardless of their size and power!
Don't make the mistake of trying to ridicule us, because even our National Anthem is a Poem talking about L I B E R T Y !

We'd rather live just an HOUR of FREE life, than an ETERNITY of slavery and imprisonment!

Greece was the only country in WW2 that faced an invasion of 4 aggressors! 4 invadors!!! Italy, Germany, Bulgaria, Albania !!
And Greece gave the FIRST VICTORY to the allied forces when we ridiculed and humiliated FASCIST Italy, Mussolini and their Albanian puppets by destroying their elite troops!

Greek resistance was the strongest and longest in WW2, which led to Greece suffering the biggest losses in terms of our size.
This led to their Fame around the world in the coming years for their incredible courage and fierce resistance! Even during the brutal years under Axis occupation!

Saint Nicholas Day.

Saint Nicholas of Myra (15 March 270 – 6 December 343) is an early Christian bishop of Hellenic (Greek) descent from the maritime city of Patara in Anatolia (modern-day Antalya Province, Turkey) during the time of the Roman Empire.

Because of the many miracles attributed to his intercession, he is also known as Nicholas the Wonderworker.
His reputation evolved among the people and his legendary habit of secret gift-giving to the children and to the poor, gave rise to the folklore of Santa Claus (“Saint Nick”) through Sinterklaas.

This little Chapel, situated on the eastern coastline outskirts of Hersonissos, is devoted to His Holiness, and opens its doors every year this very Day, as we sing along Saint Nicholas’ recessional hymn.

«Κανόνα πίστεως, καὶ εἰκόνα πραότητος,
ἐγκρατείας διδάσκαλον, ἀνέδειξέ σε τῇ ποίμνῃ σου,
ἡ τῶν πραγμάτων ἀλήθεια·
διὰ τοῦτο ἐκτήσω τῇ ταπεινώσει τὰ ὑψηλά,
τῇ πτωχείᾳ τὰ πλούσια.
Πάτερ ἱεράρχα Νικόλαε, πρέσβευε Χριστῷ τῷ Θεῷ,
σωθῆναι τὰς ψυχὰς ἡμῶν.»

“Saint Nicholas was truly a man of faith, gentleness, self-restraint, and virtue.
[As such] he was revealed through his actions and his behavior toward his flock. In this way, through his humility, he gained what is exalted; through his voluntary poverty, he attained riches.
We, too, therefore beseech him, our holy hierarch and father, Saint Nicholas, to intercede with Christ for the salvation of our souls.”

May His eternal wisdom and Holiness, be the Christian Beacon and Protector in our lives as we search to find our Hope.

Maria, Theotokos, Virgin, She is the most sacred and beloved Mother to all of us. In times of need, in times of despair, and in times of pure happiness , we address to Her our deepest thoughts, fears, agonies, hopes, loves, as She is the closest we can get to Her Son, our beloved Jesus Christ. Our sins are endless , and we ask for Her help in our daily struggle to become better, to get closer to Jesus Christ, our only Savior.

March 25th is both a Major National Holiday (revolution against the Ottoman Turks) and Religious Holiday (Annunciation) for Greeks all over the world!
There is a school flag parade in every town and village and a big armed forces parade in Athens , the capital of Greece.
The Byzantine Empire fell to the Ottoman Turks in 1453 and the Greeks remained under the Ottoman rule for nearly 400 years. During this time their language, their religion and their sense of identity remained strong!
On March 25th, 1821 the bishop Germanos of Patras raised the Greek flag at the Monastery of Agia Lavra in Peloponnese and one more revolution started against the Ottoman Turks. The people of Greece shouted “Freedom or Death” and they fought the War of Independence for 9 years (1821-1829) until a small part of Greece was finally liberated and it was declared an independent nation.
The struggle for the liberation of all the lands inhabited by Greeks continued. In 1864, the Ionian islands were added to Greece; in 1881 parts of Epirus and Thessaly. Crete, the islands of the Eastern Aegean and Macedonia were added in 1913 and Western Thrace in 1919. After World War II and Greece’s vital role in the defeat of the Axis powers, the Dodecanese islands were also liberated!
