Greece is full of history, but not all of it has Greek roots. Built in the 13th century, the Castle of Agia Paraskevi stands proudly above the town of Neapoli. The castle was built by the Franks in order to control the area. Nowadays, the castle invites visitors to enjoy the view of the gulf, as they imagine the castle's past glory.

The castle was built during Frankish rule, until William II of Villehardouin granted it to the lords of Monemvasia. Later the area became a part of the Despotate of Mystras.

The castle is a protected cultural heritage monument and is well worth a short visit. It is a wonderful site from which you can enjoy epic views as you adventure along the spiralling paths which lead inside the ruins.

On the southeast coast of Laconia, at the foot of the village of Biglafia, you can find the ruins of a vast prehistoric settlement. Abandoned around 3,000 years ago, it now lies on the beach and just below the surface of the crystal blue sea.

The submerged city of Pavlopetri is one of the most famous underwater archaeological sites. The remains suggest that the settlement covered an area of nearly 50,000 square meters (equivalent to seven soccer pitches). Research of Pavlopetri has provided unparalleled insight into the life of an Aegean coastal town. Some archaeologists have postulated that the city was abandoned due to destructive volcanic activity in the area, but the full causes of Pavlopetri's demise are still as yet unexplained.

The architectural remains are visible at a depth ranging from one to three meters, making it a great snorkeling destination. Tombs have been found dug into the rocks of the coast and others in the dunes of the beach meaning that everyone can see a piece of the ancient site even if they don't enjoy diving.

Pavlopetri is a wonderful ancient site that is located on a magnificent stretch of beach. Here you can swim, dive, suntan and enjoy a little piece of ancient history!

Sheep and goats are the predominant animals farmed here. Due to their robust nature that makes them able to endure the rigors of the rocky mountains and exposure to the elements, sheep and goat farming is considered to be one of the most dynamic sectors of the rural economy in Greece, both in terms of employment and overall income.
Pastoral farming has been a feature of Greek life since antiquity. The geomorphology of the area, climatic conditions and the prevailing systems of agricultural production in lowland regions at any given time have all been conducive to the development and preservation of this productive system until the present day.

Ancient olive trees in our area- Peloponnesos - a lot of them!

The olive tree of Vouves in Crete, Greece is probably the oldest olive tree in the world and it still produces olives. It is confirmed to be at least 2000 years old based on tree ring analysis, but it's claimed to be between 3000–4000 years old! But we have them too! Beautiful walks in the hills and old groves of Elika:-)

Things to see:
The Turkish ship Kaptan Ismail Hakki, built in 1970, is 58 meters long and 9 meters wide. It sank on 30/01/1978 supposedly due to a cargo shift. The shipwreck is lying on its left side, and remains intact. At its shallowest the ship is 2 meters down, while its maximum depth is at 11 meters. Though it is a bit of an adventure to find the shipwreck, diving it is well worth the search. The sea is crystal clear and you only need a snorkel and mask to explore sunken hull.

Deatailed info how to find the ship:

It is spring cleaning time! Spring comes with it's joys and many jobs. The
Thaumetopoea Pinivora, the Eastern Pine Processionary, has been hard at it eating our pine trees and we doing our best to save the pines from these ferocious, furry beasts. It is certainly a losing battle, but it is still wonderful to spend time in the garden as the weather improves. We are working hard and looking forward to seeing old friends and greeting new guests as the summer quickly approaches. Please reach out to us if you have any tips on how to control the Pine Processionary!
