Once the village shop, it retains many character features; particularly striking are the "whole" Chestnut beams running the width of the cottage. In the quaint garden is a large intact Venetian stone wine press, the only one on the island, locals from afar would come to tread the harvested grapes creating village wine, large barrels were stored outside the shop to sell. The stone press is the "largest" ancient intact example left on the island. A stroll around the village reveals typical local life and little gems like the Church of the Virgin Mary built in 1741 with its spectacular views across the southeast island plains. Opposite the Church are the remains of an old donkey olive press. The location feels a million miles away from the commerciality of the tourist resorts, though infact readily in reach of all the southeastern beaches. Traditional tavernas, bakeries etc are in walking distance with restaurants and town life just 5-10 mins drive away.
