The ancient verb “peiromai”, meaning “to experiment”, forms the route of such words like “empirical” or even “pirate”.
Ancient Greeks, being adventurous folks themselves, focused on the value of voyage, considering it equally important to the destination.
A “pirate” might have been originally a playful & daring individual, experimenting with joy & happiness…
