Sorry we couldn’t get any interesting photos during Brad Pitt’s three day visit to Nea Makri. The film crew understandably didn’t want spectators anywhere near the action. This is a promotion for the final result in case you’d like to look out for it. There should be scenes at Nea Makri’s Nireus Hotel and then at our harbour.

Here in Greece today is "Clean Monday", the start of 40 days of Lent leading up to the start of Easter. It's a holiday when people traditionally feast on seafood. Here in Nea Makri all of the seafood tavernas were fully booked days ago. Yesterday here at Villa Verde we celebrated early with some sea bream and lots of "Venus clams". Quickly steamed in dry white wine with mixed herbs and lots of lightly fried garlic they were delicious!

18 degrees, no clouds, perfect winter weather to go out for lunch next to the sea. Our local Corali is the only taverna we know that removes the shells from even the small fresh prawns before cooking them. Most of our guests won't know the delicious 'politiki' salad because the Corali only offers it in the winter when cabbages are at their best.

After lunch today at everyone's favourite Corali taverna, just a couple of minutes' walk from Villa Verde, we hereby challenge every other restaurant in Greece to serve a more appetising plate of char-grilled octopus.
