Hi, I’m Anna – and welcome to Halkidiki!

I live here, in this sunny corner of Northern Greece, and I help people find their perfect summer on the coast. Not the “five-star luxury” kind — but the kind with warm sea, clean houses, real food, and space to breathe.

I rent out a few homes and apartments in Halkidiki. Simple, cozy, honest places — where you can truly relax. I choose every house like I’d choose it for my own friends: clean, with good mattresses, shade on the terrace, and walking distance to the beach (or at least a short drive with easy parking). No surprises — just the kind of holiday you’d want to come back to.

I also write this blog to help you plan your trip. I’ll tell you where locals actually swim, when the fruit market is open, which beach is better with toddlers, and what to bring if you’re coming by car. I’ve got three kids myself, and I’ve lived through every kind of beach day — from nap schedules to sudden sunburns!

Halkidiki is green, welcoming, and full of little discoveries. It’s not always on the tourist map — but once you come here, it’s hard not to fall in love.

In Greece, May 1st—known as Protomagia—is more than just a public holiday. It's a joyful celebration of spring, rooted in ancient traditions that honour nature, fertility, and the cycle of life.

One of the most cherished customs is crafting a flower wreath (stefani) from wild blooms like daisies, poppies, and roses. Families gather to weave these wreaths, which are then hung on doors or balconies as symbols of renewal and protection. This tradition dates back to ancient festivals dedicated to Demeter and Persephone, celebrating the earth’s rebirth.

If you’re thinking of making your own wreath like a true Greek, you can even spice it up with some traditional “extras”:
🌿 a wild herb called demonaria to humorously keep suitors away (like they do on Lesvos),
🧄 garlic, barley, and nettles to protect from evil spirits (a Serifos twist),
🌲 or go all in with a decorated cypress trunk (Mayoxilo), paraded through the village with songs and ribbons—just like on Corfu.

The wreaths remain until June 24th, the feast of St. John the Harvester (Ai Giannis Klidonas), when they're burned in bonfires. Jumping over these fires is believed to bring good luck and health, echoing ancient purification rites.

Beyond the customs, Protomagia is a perfect excuse to get outside. Families head to the countryside for picnics, soaking up the blossoming landscape and the sweet feeling of spring.
