Κατά τη διάρκεια κατασκευής ενός νέου αεροδρομίου στην Κρήτη, αρχαιολόγοι αποκάλυψαν ένα Μινωικό μνημείο 4.000 ετών, μια σύνθετη πέτρινη κατασκευή που κάποτε κρυβόταν στο χρόνο.

Πιθανότατα χρησιμοποιείται για αρχαίες τελετουργίες, η τοποθεσία προσφέρει μια σπάνια ματιά στην πνευματική και πολιτιστική ζωή ενός από τους πρώτους πολιτισμούς της Ευρώπης. Σήμερα, η ανακάλυψη βρίσκεται στο επίκεντρο μιας έντονης συζήτησης: οι κατασκευαστές σχεδιάζουν να κατασκευάσουν έναν πύργο ραντάρ κοντά, ενώ οι ειδικοί της κληρονομιάς προειδοποιούν ότι μια τέτοια κατασκευή θα μπορούσε να βλάψει ανεπανόρθωτα αυτόν τον ανεκτίμητο σύνδεσμο με το παρελθόν.

Πέρα από τις πέτρες και τα σκαλίσματα του, το μνημείο μας επανασυνδέει με τον κόσμο των Μινωικών, υπενθυμίζοντας μας την ευθραυστότητα της αρχαίας ιστορίας όταν αντιμετωπίζουμε σύγχρονες φιλοδοξίες.
