Joy House The traditional cave-house was carved at the end of the 19th century at the top of the volcanic hill where the small Akrotiri village.

The house has an incredible view that embraces the whole island, from the northern village of Oia to the beach of Vlychada and the mount of Profitis Ilias on the eastern part. From the upper terrace where you can get from a built staircase, your eyes can reach the south and see the island of Crete. The two room house can accommodate three people, two in the double-bed bedroom and one in the living

room, on a comfortable, traditional built in sofa. It has a fully equipped kitchen for breakfast and meals served on the terrace with the view of the island in front of you as a wonderful, colorful painting. It offers all the necessary equipment for a comfortable stay, WiFi connection, flat TV screen, cleaning service while the temperature inside the cave is ideal for the warm Greek summer.

Από την πρώτη κατοίκηση της Θήρας μέχρι σήμερα, το μοναδικό στοιχείο που παραμένει σταθερό και παράλληλα απρόβλεπτο είναι ο ηφαιστειακός χαρακτήρας του νησιωτικού συμπλέγματος. Πέρα από την σημαντική γεωγραφική θέση στο νότιο Αιγαίο, αυτή η «συμβίωση» με τα ηφαίστεια της περιοχής (Καμένες, Χριστιανά και Κολούμπο) αποτελούσαν πάντα ένα σημαντικό στοιχείο της καθημερινότητας των κατοίκων. Το ηφαιστειακό τοπίο μαγνήτιζε τους κατοίκους και τους επισκέπτες καθώς παράλληλα προσέφερε απλόχερα την σημαντική πρώτη ύλη για δομικά υλικά και λίθινα εργαλεία και καθόριζε πάντα τις μοναδικές καλλιέργειες. Φαντάζει μακρινή ανάμνηση η τελευταία έκρηξη του ηφαιστείου αν και έχουν περάσει λιγότερο από 70 χρόνια. Το μόνο σίγουρο είναι πως το ηφαίστειο θα είναι πάντα εδώ, θα μας εμπνέει, θα μας συναρπάζει και θα μας προβληματίζει.

From the first moment Thera was inhabited until today, the only factor that has remained the same and at the same time completely unpredictable, is the volcanic character of the archipelago. Apart from the important geographical location in the south Aegean, this ‘coexistence’ with the volcanoes of the region (Kamenes, Christiana and Koloumbo) have always been an important part of daily life for the inhabitants. The volcanic landscape has attracted those living on or visiting the islands while at the same time providing the raw materials for construction and stone tools, as well as defining the agriculture. The last eruption seems like a distance memory, even though less than 70 years have passed. The only thing that is certain is that the volcano will always be here, inspiring us, creating a sense of intrigue and always putting us on edge.
