🇬🇷 Planning a trip to Zakynthos in 2027? Save this guide before you book.
If you want more than a few days by the pool and you actually want to explore the island planning where you stay, how long you stay and how you move around can make a huge difference to your trip.

🏝️ HOW MANY DAYS DO YOU NEED?
3–4 days: Best for a short escape and a selection of the island’s highlights. You’ll need to prioritise rather than try to see everything.
7 days: A great choice for a first visit. You can combine beaches, villages, sightseeing and a boat day without turning every day into a checklist.
7–10 days: Our recommendation if you really want to explore Zakynthos. You’ll have time for the north and south, different beaches, mountain villages, boat trips and, importantly, days when you simply slow down and enjoy where you are.
🚗 GETTING AROUND
If exploring the island is your priority, renting a car is one of the most useful choices you can make.
Zakynthos may look small on the map, but driving times can be deceptive. Some of the most beautiful places are reached via smaller, winding roads, particularly towards the north, west and mountain villages.
Our tip: don’t plan your days based only on kilometres. Group places by area instead.
📍 HOW TO ORGANISE YOUR DAYS
Rather than crossing the island several times, divide your itinerary geographically.
South & Southeast:
Vasilikos • Gerakas • Banana Beach • Kalamaki • Keri
Central & East:
Zakynthos Town • Bochali • Argassi • surrounding villages
North:
Xigia • Makris Gialos • Volimes • Agios Nikolaos • Skinari • Blue Caves
West:
Mizithres • Keri Lighthouse • Porto Limnionas • Porto Roxa and the mountain villages
This leaves you more time for the places themselves and less time driving back and forth.
🏡 ONE ACCOMMODATION OR TWO?
For most visitors, one well-located base is absolutely enough.
But if you’re staying 8–10 days or longer and your goal is to explore as much of Zakynthos as possible, splitting your holiday between two areas can be worth considering.
For example, you could spend part of the trip in the south/southeast and the rest in a more central or northern base.
It isn’t necessary for everyone and changing accommodation also takes time but for a longer, exploration-focused trip it can reduce repeated drives across the island.
⛵ BOAT DAYS
Leave some flexibility in your itinerary for the sea.
Blue Caves, the northern coastline, Keri Caves and Mizithres are completely different experiences from the water, and weather and sea conditions can affect boat plans.
Our advice? Don’t leave your only possible boat day until the very end of your holiday.
🌊 BEACH DAYS
Don’t try to fit four or five beaches into one day just because they look close on Google Maps.
Choose an area, explore a couple of beaches properly and leave some space for spontaneous stops.
Zakynthos is much better when you’re not constantly checking the time.
📅 WHEN SHOULD YOU START PLANNING 2027?
September is definitely not too early, especially if you’re considering July or August 2027.
Planning early is particularly useful if you:
✓ want a specific villa or location
✓ need a private pool
✓ are travelling with family or a larger group
✓ need several bedrooms
✓ have fixed flight dates
✓ want to divide your holiday between two accommodations
Booking early doesn’t mean you need to organise every restaurant and beach months in advance.
It simply gives you more choice when it comes to the things that matter most: flights, location and accommodation.
💡 OUR BIGGEST TIP
Plan your trip before choosing your accommodation.
Ask yourself:
How many days do we have?
What parts of Zakynthos do we really want to explore?
Will we have a car?
Do we want nightlife or quiet evenings?
Do we want to walk to restaurants?
Would we rather be near the beach or use the property as a base for exploring?
Then choose the area and finally the property.
Because the “best place to stay in Zakynthos” isn’t the same for every traveller. It depends entirely on the holiday you want to have.
