THE HIDDEN GIANT OF GUATEMALA 🇬🇹: WHY EL MIRADOR’S LA DANTA IS THE BIGGEST PYRAMID ON EARTH 😱

Forget Egypt 🇪🇬. Forget Mexico 🇲🇽. The largest pyramid by volume on the planet is buried in the Guatemalan jungle 🌴.

Meet La Danta, in El Mirador 🏛️
Built by the Maya around 300 BC, La Danta isn’t the tallest. At 72 meters tall, Teotihuacan’s Pyramid of the Sun beats it in height 📏.

But size isn’t just height. It’s volume. And La Danta is a monster 👹.

The numbers 🔢:
Total volume: 2.8 million cubic meters 📦
That’s 200,000 cubic meters more than Egypt’s Great Pyramid of Giza 🤯
To build it, the Maya moved an estimated 15 million man-days of labor. By hand ✋. No metal tools. No wheel ⚙️.

Why it doesn’t look like it 🤔:
La Danta isn’t one sleek pyramid. It’s a massive platform with 3 temples on top ⛰️. Think of it as a man-made mountain. The entire complex covers 18 square km - bigger than downtown LA 🗺️.

The kicker 🔥:
It’s still 90% buried. Only the tops peek out of the jungle canopy 🌳. Archaeologists are still uncovering it. You can only reach it by helicopter 🚁 or a 5-day trek through jaguar territory 🐆.

The Maya didn’t build tall. They built BIG 💪. La Danta proves it.

Guatemala isn’t just home to ruins. It’s home to the world’s largest ancient structure. And most of the world has never heard of it 🌎.

This morning, the Municipal Mayor of Flores, in a meeting with the Honorable Council, with the presence of representatives from the different tourism sectors, boat operators, taxi drivers, hoteliers, restaurant owners, and the COCODE of the Island, to address the issue of the entrance bridge to the Island of Flores in compliance with REPORT DMI-01-2025, issued by CONRED, in its section 3.3 "As a short-term measure, prohibit vehicular traffic on the bridges that connect the City of Santa Elena de la Cruz and the Island of Flores, while the respective evaluations of said Infrastructure are carried out, in order to avoid generating load that exceeds the weight that said bridges can currently support, due to the conditions they currently show".

Based on the above, different points were addressed during the meeting with the corresponding technical parties of the Municipality, agreeing on the following:

1: The total vehicular closure of the Island of Flores was agreed upon, remaining exclusively for emergency vehicles, volunteer firefighters, municipal ambulance, and garbage collection services.

2: Pedestrian access remains open through the center of the street properly marked, do not use the sidewalks.

3: Water access was provisionally agreed upon with three access points, Playa del Pueblo, Street by Hotel Casona del Lago, and Street next to Restaurante El Puerto, where renovations are planned.

4: For residents of the Island City of Flores, a catamaran will be enabled that will be available for use with its respective sticker once a day according to the assigned boarding.

To maintain order with the garbage collection service, residents are asked to properly organize it in bags for transport in their contracted service vehicle.

These actions are in response to the municipal emergency plan and agreed upon with the different parties involved and technical support, for the implementation of the total closure of the Island of Flores, in the coming days.
