Our Story
The Villa on Dunbar Rock is a dream dive vacation resort located approximately 7 mi/11 km east of Roatan and 36 mi/58 km north of the mainland of Honduras. Perched on a cay with 360° views of Sandy Bay, Guanaja and surrounding cays, this unique resort blends beauty, serenity and something uniquely special in a laid-back, inviting atmosphere. The Villa occupies 15,000 ft²/1395 m² rising from the “sea-level” which includes a white sand beach for lounging, swimming and snorkeling, the dive docks and a PADI/SSI dive center. Stairs and a ramp way wind their way up across four floors to the guest rooms, multiple terraces for lounging, infinity pool and pool bar, cardio room and the Great Room, which includes a comfortable living/dining room with couches, a large-screen TV plus a large viewing screen for personal videos. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout. Room categories include six Ocean Front Rooms with 2 queen beds, three Ocean Front Rooms with 1 king bed, a Presidential Suite and Penthouse Suite. All rooms have a private patios or balconies with ocean views. “Foodies” are sure to enjoy the hearty meals the Chef serves up for breakfast, lunch and dinner – with a cocktail hour snack tucked in as well. Dunbar Rock operates 2 dive boats: the 45 ft/14m Freedom and 40 ft/12m Endeavor, each with capacity for 16 divers. Boats have platforms for giant stride entries and wide sturdy ladders for exiting the water, purified drinking water, fruit for snacking, fresh water showers, camera rinse tanks, dry storage, shaded areas and all required safety equipment. The boats depart at 8:30 am for the morning 2-tank dive, returning for lunch with the afternoon dive following. The friendly and professional staff pride themselves on not just being your guides but your dive concierges, so plan on leaving the lifting, hauling and packing of all the diving gear to them! The team will carefully carry your gear onto the boats, prepare it for the dive, change it over for the second dive, and rinse and store it at the end of the day. Your only assignment while on board is to do a check to make sure you have all your gear before you depart, then sit back and enjoy the ride. Guanaja is the new “must-dive” destination in the Caribbean, with 45+ named dive sites and more being discovered every day. Where you dive on any given day is often determined by the weather. However with dive sites ringing Guanaja and nearby cays, it is nearly always possible to find sites located in the lee of the wind. From the moment you take that first giant stride off the boat and peer below, you will awed by what a reef system looks like that has had little to no diver impact. Diverse, vibrant and thriving, the exceedingly healthy sites include caves, canyons, pinnacles, walls and wrecks, most notably the Jado Trader. If you define a perfect dive vacation as one including no crowds - except perhaps the one you bring with you….not having to dress up for dinner, concierge dive service and a reef system you can practically call your own, it’s time to pack your bags and head to the Villa on Dunbar Rock.
