A small village called Humac, situated 350 meters above the island's mountain ridge.

Driving there feels like entering a ghost town. There is no electricity, no running water, and today, zero permanent residents. Yet, it isn't truly abandoned; it is a perfectly preserved time capsule from the 15th century.

The story behind it is quite remarkable:

Six hundred years ago, local families from nearby Vrisnik built Humac as a seasonal base camp. They didn't live there year-round, but during the major grape, olive, and lavender harvests, entire neighborhoods would pack up and move to the mountain for months at a time.

It wasn't just a workplace; it was a thriving community. Neighbors worked side by side, gathering crops and pressing wine together.

The houses were built entirely of dry stone, without a single drop of mortar. Since water was scarcer than gold, they created a network of stone gutters designed not only to collect rainwater but to share it among the families.

Humac also serves as the gateway to Grapčeva Cave. Archaeologists have discovered traces of human habitation there dating back to 4000 BC, including Neolithic pottery featuring the oldest depiction of a ship ever found in Europe.

Today, it is a protected eco-village and a stunning open-air monument to how people survived and thrived on the island for centuries.

How to get there: It can be reached by car or scooter from Zavala, It is incredibly peaceful, especially around sunset.
