Every season I see the same thing happen. Guests arrive and do not like the accommodation they've booked — not because the listing was misleading but because they imagined something differently and, more importantly, compromised on the wrong things.

The most common mistakes:
🏊 Worrying about the lack of a pool — not knowing Bačvice beach is 5 minutes away, sandy, shallow, and perfect for families with young children

🏰 Booking inside Diocletian's Palace for the atmosphere — then discovering what bars and summer concerts sound like late in the evening directly below your window

📐 Seeing "25m²" in the listing and booking anyway — then arriving and thinking "oh, it's small." The size was always there. The spatial imagination wasn't.

💶 Choosing a hostel to save money — then fleeing to a proper room by day two because shared bathrooms and noise turned out to matter more than the saving

Split can be more than a transit city. Most people just never give it the chance.

Two nights covers the Palace, the Riva, a day trip. Done. But those who stay a week find the things that don't appear in guidebooks: early morning walks along empty beaches before tourists arrive. Free entry to one of the world's smallest cathedrals — if you go at 8am on Sunday for Mass. Lamb on a spit at a hilltop fortress with 2,000 years of history that makes Game of Thrones look modest. A Hajduk match with Torcida in full voice. Aida in the Peristyle under open sky. And fjaka — the Dalmatian art of doing absolutely nothing, contentedly, in the sun.

None of this requires rushing. All of it requires time.
