This weekend we will be one of the exhibitor at the instrument maker's exhibition of the Resonanzen festival, in the Wiener Konzerthaus in Vienna.

We will be bringing some new renaissance flutes, including our latest consort, in A=408 Hz.

The last restoration for this year, a beautiful Viennese flute made by S. Koch.

As usual by ivory headed flutes the head was cracked, we sealed the crack as much as possible, restoring the embouchure hole close to the original measurements. Surprisingly, the barrel was intact, with only a very small sign of repair. The body has some pinning, which we left as it was, as it is part of the instruments story.

What was a new job for us was making new pewter pads. The originals were missing, replaced with leather pads. We wanted to restore it to as close to the original construction as possible, so we had to cast pewter rods to turn new ones. While we had never done such a job, it worked out well in the end.

The last renaissance flute finished for this year.

A C. Rafi model in 440, made of apple.

Our C. Rafi instruments, based on an original in Verona, have a small and strongly oval embouchure hole, which requires a little more effort to learn to play, but they make up for it in sound quality. They have a rather rich sound, making them better suited for playing solo, or in an ensemble with other instruments, as opposed to a flute consort.

This flute is for sale, if you wish to surprise a loved one, or yourself, for Christmas with it, do not hesitate to contact us for a sound sample and further information!
