The funicular at Budapest was built in 1870. The 95 metre track with its 48% incline was the second built in Europe. Initially, the funicular was steam powered, but today it runs on eletricity. The two carriages are connected like pendulums, so while one takes passengers up, the other goes down. The two carriages are named after St. Margit and Bishop Gerard .
