We visited Hunyadi Square Market this morning before the arrival of our next guests at Apartment Csengery Budapest.
The main building is closed for renovation, but the market itself is open.
It’s worth a visit. ☺️

Hungarian Carnival (farsang) isn’t just about costumes – it’s also about eating and drinking without guilt. The undisputed star is the Carnival doughnut (farsangi fánk): soft, fluffy, dusted with powdered sugar and filled with jam – the more, the better. Hearty meat dishes are also common, such as sausages, blood pudding, or rich stews, since this period traditionally marked the last big feasts before Lent.

When it comes to drinks, moderation was never the goal: mulled wine, pálinka (traditional fruit brandy), and homemade wine were essential companions to winter celebrations. The rule is simple – during Carnival, calories don’t count, good cheer is mandatory, and the table should never be empty. 🍩🥂
