Community, Sustainability, and Authentic Travel.
All these words we’ve heard before..
But we’re not a typical hostel. Ours is less of a business model, and more of an excuse to bring travelers to visit the real side of Bali. We know that Bali is need of a shift from the careless tourism that's been dominating the island for the last few decades, we would like to bring back the sense of responsibility among travelers and the local community and provide a safe base to bridge locals and visitors..
This is a small community hostel, 100% handmade by our friends, naighbors and our incredible volunteers! We work to connect visitors to Bali with local neighbours and communities, instead of separating ourselves above and away from the traditional lifestyle here. The communal energy we create is frequently changing as friends come and go. It’s an endlessly exciting experience. Our mission is to be resilient by challenging the fake modern conceptions of sustainability, and by retrofitting a better for of tourism in an already urbanized Bali, with aspirations of sharing this vision around the world. The Yard works because we practice mutual respect and reciprocity. Though we are a small and humble operation with guests from all different backgrounds, we know the secret to instant community lies in taking a genuine interest in each other, our neighbors and being honest even when its uncomfortable (with fullest respect). We operate on a community model of collaboration for daily tasks, such as maintaining the permaculture garden, preparing and cleaning up after meals, and just helping each other get the most out of our time in Bali (whether it be a single day or many months that you stay). Every day is a different kind of adventure here, depending on what everyone feels like doing at the time. You are welcome to pitch in with the group for shared meals, or take care of your own food requirements.
