Bali Art Festival 2026
What Is the Bali Arts Festival?
The Bali Arts Festival, known locally as Pesta Kesenian Bali (PKB), is the island’s largest annual cultural celebration, held every year in Denpasar, the capital of Bali. Established in 1979 by the provincial government, the festival was created to preserve, develop, and promote Balinese arts across generations. For one full month, representatives from all regencies in Bali present their finest traditional performances, making the festival a province-wide showcase of dance, music, theatre, crafts, and ritual-based art rooted in Balinese Hindu philosophy.
Running from mid-June to mid-July, the Bali Arts Festival features hundreds of performances, exhibitions, competitions, and cultural parades at the Taman Werdhi Budaya Art Centre. Most events are open to the public and free of charge, allowing both locals and international visitors to experience authentic Balinese culture in one central location. More than a tourist attraction, Pesta Kesenian Bali functions as a living platform for cultural preservation, community participation, and artistic education in Indonesia.
The Theme of the Bali Arts Festival
Each edition of the Bali Arts Festival carries a distinctive theme that reflects Balinese philosophy and contemporary cultural values. In 2026, the official theme is “Atma Kerthi – Jiwa Sidha Parisudha (Memuliakan Jiwa Paripurna)”, which emphasises the purification and elevation of the soul as a path toward spiritual harmony and cultural integrity. Through this theme, the organisers reaffirm their commitment to preserving Balinese identity while strengthening moral and artistic values across generations.
Furthermore, the 2026 theme encourages artists, communities, and cultural institutions to present works that celebrate inner balance, spiritual awareness, and collective responsibility. By highlighting the concept of Atma Kerthi, the festival not only honours tradition but also actively promotes cultural resilience in modern society.
The 48th Bali Arts Festival (Pesta Kesenian Bali) runs from June 13 to July 11, 2026 at the Taman Werdhi Budaya Art Centre in Denpasar. This month-long cultural celebration features parades, classical gamelan orchestras, puppet shows, and handicraft exhibitions celebrating the island’s heritage
