Dancing Around The Archipelago: Margapati Dance
Margapati dance was created in 1942. The name derived from the word (mrga = animal, pati = king), depicting the motion of the king of the forest (lion) who is wandering in the middle of the forest chasing his prey.
Its choreography blends the styles of North Bali and South Bali, usually performed by female dancers with firm movements resembling a man.
