Open each page and discover the painted emotions and vibrant expressions of Paul Gauguin (1848–1903) and other artists of the late nineteenth century. Gauguin and His Friends (2022) is the catalogue of an exhibition held at Ordrupgaard in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Featuring works by the French artist Paul Gauguin, Émile Bernard, Paul Sérusier, and others, the book explores the creations of the young painters associated with Pont-Aven school—available in The Sayan House Villa small library.

Composer and choreographer I Gede Manik (1912–1984) moved with fiery grace within the vibrant tradition of Kebyar Legong, innovating Balinese art through dynamic movement and emotional intensity.

The artist from Jagaraga, Buleleng, devoted his life to crafting music and dance. Among his most monumental works is Kebyar Dangin Enjung or Trunajaya (“The Unbeatable Young Man”) performed in 1950 in Denpasar before distinguished guests, including Indonesia’s first president Soekarno.

From the tales of the Mahabharata to the Ramayana, visions of myth are rendered by I Gusti Made Deblog (1906–1986) into imagery that draws the viewer into a singular world. Known for his black-and-white works, the painter from Denpasar breathe mysticism into form.

Deblog learned the art of painting under the guidance of Yap Sin Tin, a Chinese painter and photographer who arrived in Bali in the 1930s—creating a subtle acculturation of visual language and values.
