Heat can be measured. Heatwork has to be read.

Before every firing, three pyrometric cones stand beside our tableware. They capture what a thermometer cannot: the combined effect of time and temperature on the clay.

Our target is Cone 9. A ninety-degree bend at approximately 1,257°C, depending on the firing schedule. That is the point our clay body fully matures, building the strength and durability our tableware needs for daily hospitality service.

Every cone is read. Every result is recorded. Firing after firing.

Small detail. Uncompromising standard.

On 3 October, Kevala Ceramics contributed dinner plates from our Seratus Collection to the IGNITE Fundraising Gala 2026, hosted by the Green School Foundation.

Made entirely from internal ceramic production waste, Seratus Collection is our collaboration with material designer Sara Howard, to bring together reclaimed clay and glaze residues recovered from the spray booths at our factory. These materials are carefully reprocessed and transformed into functional tableware, reflecting Kevala’s approach to responsible craftsmanship and thoughtful use of resources.

The collection is part of our ongoing commitment to reducing waste, exploring the potential of existing materials, and integrating more sustainable practices into ceramic production.

It was a pleasure to contribute to an evening supporting sustainability focused education, bringing together a shared commitment to creativity, community, and environmental responsibility.

This week at the factory: Clay shaped on the wheel, edges refined by touch, glaze brushed on and finished pieces carefully checked.

Behind every Kevala piece are the hands that shape it and the care in every detail.

Handmade is the new luxury.

Same shelf. Same pieces. Before and after the fire.

What goes into the kiln is chalky, pale and quiet. What comes out is glossy, deep and finished. The heat melts the glaze into glass and the true colour shows up: celadon greens, earthy browns and soft whites. Every piece on this shelf was shaped by hand in our Bali studio, and the kiln is the last step.

This is the moment we wait for after every firing.

A new collection for Six Senses Amaala

Inspired by the geometric forms of the 1970s, the Amaala collection balances angled stripes with Six Senses’ calm, considered approach to natural luxury. The pieces feel grounded and rooted in the surrounding landscape, each shaped, glazed and finished by hand in our Bali studio.
Marloe shares the design process, from the first sketch to the final piece on the table at Amaala.

Many tools. One thing they all rely on: the hands of a skilled maker.

Cutting, shaping, trimming, carving and refining : each technique calls for a different tool and a different touch.

Handmade is the new luxury.

At Tu’Hu, the pattern on the wall and the pattern on the bowl were always meant to meet.
For Tu’Hu Restaurant at Joali Maldives, we translated the leaf rhythm carved into its doors into a dimpled texture, pressed by hand into every bowl. Thrown, pressed and stamped in our Bali factory.

How many circles can you spot at Kevala?

Some are shaped by hand.
Some are formed by nature.
And some are made when people come together.

A little look at all the things that go round at Kevala. ◯

In the calm of Kevala, we let things take their time. This is the essence of slow and everything worth making.
