Coral reefs may look like rocks, but they are actually living animals that grow very slowly over many years. A single touch from a fin, hand, or equipment can damage or even kill coral polyps. That is why keeping a safe distance from the reef while diving or snorkeling is very important. By maintaining good buoyancy and staying aware of your surroundings, you help protect the reef and all the marine life that depends on it.
