🇬🇧 Since the Blue-ring Octopus (Hapalochlaena lunulata) is known to be solitary, its interactions are limited to fighting or reproduction. Both of these activities are signaled by the glowing of the blue rings. Intimate contact is also maintained during these activities, so it is not always easy to distinguish between them.

🇩🇪 Da der Blauring-Oktopus (Hapalochlaena lunulata) als Einzelgänger bekannt ist sind ihre Interaktionen auf Kämpfe oder Vortpflanzung beschränkt. Beides zwei Aktivitäten, bei denen die Erregung durch das Leuchten der blauen Ringe signalisiert wird. Es wird auch inniger Kontakt dabei gepflegt, daher ist es nicht immer einfach es auseinanderzuhalten.

🇬🇧 The Arrowhead Crab (Huenia heraldica) lives in Halimeda seaweed beds. It not only looks like a Halimeda leaf, but it also attaches one or two of these leaves to its rostrum (head spine). At 2 cm in length, it is also the size of a Halimeda leaf. This provides excellent camouflage, making it difficult to spot as long as it remains still.

🇩🇪 Die Halimeda Krabbe (Huenia heraldica) ist in Halimeda Algenbeständen Zuhause. Sie sieht nicht nur wie ein Halimedablatt aus, sie steckt sich auch ein oder zwei dieser Blätter ans Rostrum (Stirndorn). So ist sie sehr gut getarnt und schwer auszumachen solange sie sich nicht bewegt. Mit 2 cm hat sie natürlich auch die Größe eines Halimedablattes.

🇬🇧 The Upside-down Jellyfish (Cassiopea andromeda) harbors zooxanthellae (single-celled algae) in its tentacles, which provide it with sugar to keep them safe. This is a true symbiosis (a mutually beneficial partnership). Because it directs its tentacles towards the sun, it swims tirelessly against the sandy bottom, so that the beautifully drawn screen is not visible. These Scyphozoan, which can grow up to 30 cm in diameter, is found in shallow waters with no current. Its tentacles are highly stinging because it also relies on animal prey.

🇩🇪 Die Mangrovenqualle (Cassiopea andromeda) beherbergt in ihren Tentakeln Zooxanthellen (einzellige Algen), die ihr für die Geborgenheit Zucker zur Verfügung stellen. Es handelt sich um eine echte Symbiose (Partnerschaft zu beider Vorteil). Da sie die Tentakel nun gegen die Sonne richtet, schwimmt sie unermüdlich gegen den Sandgrund, so dass der schöngezeichnete Schirm nicht sichtbar ist. Die bis zu 30 cm große Schirmqualle (Scyphozoa) ist in strömungsarmen Flachwasser zu finden. Die Tentakel sind stark nesselnd da sie zusätzlich auf tierische Nahrung angewiesen ist.

🇬🇧 The Clear Sundial (Architectonica perspectiva) lives buried in the sand and is said to feed on sand anemones and sea pens. The living animals are rarely found on the sediment surface. However, their empty shells, which can grow up to 5 cm in size, are regularly found.

🇩🇪 Die Riesen-Sonnenuhrschnecke (Architectonica perspectiva) lebt eingebuddelt im Sand und soll sich von Sandanemonen und Seefedern ernähren. Die lebenden Tiere sind selten auf der Sedimentoberfläche zu finden. Die lehren bis 5 cm großen Gehäuse dagegen werde regelmäßig gefunden.

🇬🇧 The Nudibranch (Favorinus tsuruganus) feeds on slug eggs. It is frequently found in the brightly colored egg masses of the Spanish Dancer (Hexabranchus spec.). Sometimes, this slug, which can grow up to 4 cm long, also lays its spiral-shaped eggs directly on its food source.

🇩🇪 Die Fadennacktschnecke (Favorinus tsuruganus) ernährt sich von Nacktschneckeneiern. Häufig ist sie in den, von weit leuchtenden Gelegen der Spanischen Tänzerin (Hexabranchus spec.) zu finden. Manchmal legt die bis zu 4 cm lange Nacktschnecke auch direkt auf ihrer Nahrung ihren spiralförmigen Laich ab.

🇬🇧 The Dottyback (Pseudochromis erdmanni) was first described by Gill and Allen in 2011. The male has a reddish-orange head and shares a small, distinct coral outcrop—situated on an expanse of sediment—with its black-colored female. At 8 cm in length, they are the largest predatory fish in this oasis. They react inquisitively to any intruder in their territory and would defend it against rivals.

🇩🇪 Der Zwergbarsch (Pseudochromis erdmanni) wurde 2011 von Gill und Allen erstbeschrieben. Das Männchen hat einen rot-orange gefärbten Kopf und bewohnt mit seinem schwarzgefärbten Weibchen einen kleinen übersichtlichen Korallenblock auf weiter Sedimentoberfläche. In dieser Oase sind sie mit 8 cm die größten Raubfische. Sie reagieren neugierig auf jeden Eindringling in ihr Reich und würden es auch gegenüber Rivalen verteidigen.

🇬🇧 The Tiger Snapping Shrimp (Alpheus bellulus) lives in pairs with one or two partner gobies like the Yellow Shrimp Goby (Cryptocentrus cinctus).They are responsible for constructing and maintaining their shared burrow, which they tirelessly expand and modify. While digging, they find food such as worms, small snails and dead organic matter (detritus).

🇩🇪 Der Tiger Knallkrebs (Alpheus bellulus) lebt paarweise zusammen mit einer oder auch zwei Partnergrundeln, wie der Zitronen-Wächtergrundel (Cryptocentrus cinctus). Sie sind für den Bau und Erhalt der gemeisamen Höhle verantwortlich. Unermüdlich wird sie erweitert und umgebaut. Nahrung wird beim buddeln gefunden, Würmer, kleine Schnecken aber auch totes organisches Material (Detritus).

🇬🇧 The Cleaner Shrimp (Urocaridella spec.) lives in small crevices that serve as a refuge for glassfish or small cardinalfish. Here, they have plenty of clientele to whom they can offer their services. Moving in small groups across the scaly skin of their symbiotic partners, they hunt for blood-sucking parasites.

🇩🇪 Die Putzergarnele (Urocaridella spec.) lebt in kleinen Höhlen, die einen Unterschlupf für Glasfische oder kleine Kardinalfische abgeben. Hier haben sie genug Kunschaft um ihre Dienste anzubieten. In kleinen Trupps laufen sie auf der schuppigen Haut ihrer Symbiontischen Partner und machen Jagt auf blutsaugende Parasiten.

🇬🇧 The Coral Marbled Shrimp (Saron neglectus) lives in deep coral crevices and is usually only seen at night when it forages for food within the coral colonies. This shrimp, which can grow up to 40 mm in length, is said to feed on coral polyps. Because there are many similar-looking species, it is considered a species complex that requires further investigation.

🇩🇪 Die Marmorgarnele (Saron neglectus) lebt in tiefen Korallennischen und ist meist nur des nachts zu entdecken, wenn sie auf Futtersuche innerhalb der Korallenkolonien wandelt. Die bis zu 40 mm große Garnele soll sich von Korallenpolypen ernähren. Da es viele ähnlich aussehende gibt, spricht man von einem Artkomplex, der noch genauer untersucht werden muß.

🇬🇧 Like many corals (polyps), the Giant Elephant Ear (Amplexidiscus fenestrafer), belonging to the Corallimorph, can reproduce asexually by division. Before the entire body separates into two parts, the mouth divides, so that the mother animal appears to have two mouths for a short period.

🇩🇪 Wie viele Korallentiere (Polypen) kann sich das zu den Scheibenanemonen (Corallimorpharia) gerhörige Große Elefantenohr (Amplexidiscus fenestrafer) durch Teilung asexuelle Fortpflanzen. Bevor sich der komplette Körper in zwei Teile trennt, teilt sich der Mund, sodass das Muttertier in einer kurzen Phase zwei Münder zu haben scheint.
