๐ฎ๐ฉ ๐ฅ โ๏ธ Film Synopsis: Suzzanna is determined to exact revenge on Bisman, the cruel village ruler who killed her father with black magic. To achieve this, she learns black magic but realises Bismanโs power is immense. In the midst of her efforts, Suzzanna falls in love with Pramuja, a religious man who doesnโt know her secret, forcing her to choose between pursuing her revenge and sacrificing him for love.
A horror movie that doesn't rely on jump scares. There was a point where I thought that serving this as a 2-hour picture was a little bit too much, but I'm glad that there's something that needs to be said here rather than thoroughly filling the kill count with black magic. There is nostalgia and a few scene references from the source with a refreshing take, old-school and romantic, but at the same time, gripping and brutal. It feels so good to see El Manik is back; I mean, every minute of his screentime here means a lot to me. I miss his performance. It deserves an audience, honestly, not just for being good genre entertainment, but also for the richness of its powerful message.
Castings: Luna Maya, Reza Rahadian, Clift Sangra, Djenar Maesa Ayu.
