Bawah Reserve offers untouched beauty and an opportunity to explore https://www.bawahreserve.com Bawah Reserve is a sustainable resort offering a spectacular private island
experience in Indonesia’s remote Anambas archipelago. Bawah Reserve lies 160 miles northeast of Singapore in Indonesian waters. The journey
to the resort can start either in Singapore or Batam, Indonesia. Bawah Reserves’ 36 earth-conscious stand-alone suites are enveloped by nature. Every detail–from the crisp bed linen on our canopy beds, to the copper bathtubs are designed to make guests feel at home. Daily rates include spa treatments, island activities (both on land and sea), and the exquisite cuisine made from ingredients grown in Bawah’s own gardens. With six islands, three lagoons, 13 beaches, and 100 hectares of untouched forest, guests have their own natural playground to explore. Our earth-first philosophy guides everything we do; it’s why we established a come-as-you-are, relaxed environment built upon the tenets of authenticity, excellent service, and respect for our islands’ natural wonders. The Reserve offers two restaurants, two bars, and endless private dining experiences across its six islands, from the sea to the trees. Bawah Reserve offers unique experiences to help guests enjoy the natural surroundings, whether they want to explore the islands by foot or by boat, get pampered at Aura Spa, or dive into adventurous marine activities.

Our founder, Tim Hartnoll, recently returned to the islands to see the Anambas Foundation’s conservation work up close: from coral reef restoration and waste management to agroforestry and forest regeneration across the archipelago.

For Tim, it has always been about more than creating a place to stay. It’s about helping protect the place that made Bawah possible in the first place.

And perhaps the best part? Seeing an idea that started years ago grow into something that reaches far beyond our six islands.

Opening Bawah wasn’t just about building rooms; it was about protecting six pristine islands and their surrounding marine life.

We banned boats from dropping anchors, built systems to recycle 100% of our water, and introduced seaplane arrivals to replace lengthy boat trips without disturbing the sea floor.

Because true luxury isn’t just about what you experience, it’s about what you leave behind 🏝️🩵

No notifications. No meetings. No “quick question.”
Just you, the ocean, and absolutely nothing that needs your attention 🌊

Consider this your official reminder: doing nothing is sometimes the most productive thing you can do 🏝️✨

When eco-architect Sim Boon Yang (“Boon”) first stepped onto Pulau Bawah, there were no seaplanes or runways. Just dense jungle and untouched shores.

Instead of imposing modern hotel architecture onto nature, Boon designed structures that bow to the landscape.

Using bamboo, stone, and local timber, the architecture was crafted to feel whimsical, intentional, and entirely integrated into the wild.

High above the canopy sits our homage to adventure.

Inspired by the 19th-century author whose fantastical remote islands captured imaginations worldwide, the Jules Verne Bar is Bawah’s summit hideaway.

Climb up the spiral staircase to find a bar built into the island’s pinnacle, where every drink is a work of art. Expect garden-to-glass perfection with fresh island botanicals from lemongrass and chilli to pandan and pink peppercorns.

Your evening cocktail, elevated.

No plans. No schedules. No rush.

Just a slow day in paradise - a good book, a long massage, and dinner for two 🥰

Sometimes, doing nothing is exactly the plan.

Most island resorts begin with heavy machinery.
Bawah began with craftsmanship.

Hundreds of artisans spent years creating something that looked as though it had always belonged here.

Sometimes the hardest way really is the most beautiful one.

Your home away from home 🤗 well, minus the alarm clocks 😉

Hand-built bamboo frames, local craftsmanship, and a private pool just steps from your canopy bed. We built these villas to feel deeply comfortable - like a second home, just tucked into a remote corner of paradise. Unhurried, intentional and completely yours 🥰
