Bali is one of the best solo destinations on the planet.
But only if you know what you're doing.
Here's everything worth knowing before you land.
๐ Where to base yourself
โจ Canggu, the social hub. Digital nomads, surf culture, great coffee, easy to meet people. Noisy but alive.
โจ Ubud, slower, deeper, more intentional. Great for solo travellers who want to think, create, or just breathe.
โจ Seminyak, a little more polished. Good food, good nightlife, still walkable.
โจ Sanur, underrated. Calm, local, affordable. Perfect if you want Bali without the circus.
๐ Best things to do solo
โจ Sunrise at Mount Batur, book a guided trek. You'll meet people on the way up and watch the world appear from above the clouds.
โจ Cooking class in Ubud, social, fun, you leave with a skill and usually a group dinner.
โจ Cycle the Campuhan Ridge Walk in the early morning, quiet, beautiful, completely free.
โจ Visit Tirta Empul Temple, spiritual, grounding, and genuinely unlike anything else.
โจ Day trip to Nusa Penida, book a group snorkel tour. Manta rays. Enough said.
๐ Where to find your people
โจ Outpost and Dojo (Canggu), co-working spaces that double as social hubs. Events, networking, communities of long-term travellers.
โจ Tribal Bali and Canggu Community Facebook groups, post before you arrive and you'll have plans before you land.
โจ Beachwork (Seminyak)
solid co-working with great wifi and a good crowd.
โจ Hubud (Ubud) the original Bali co-working space. Still one of the best.
๐ Things to be careful of
โจ The Kuta strip at night, still fun, but watch your drink and watch your wallet.
โจ Unofficial money changers, only use authorised booths. The "best rate in Bali" scam is alive and well.
โจ Taxi touts outside the airport, use Grab or Bluebird only. Agree nothing at the curb.
โจ Rental scooters without a licence, the police checkpoints are real and the fines aren't fun.
โจ Bali belly, eat where locals eat, drink bottled water, go easy the first few days.
๐ What not to do
โจ Don't overschedule. Bali rewards wandering.
โจ Don't skip the north. Munduk, Lovina, Pemuteran, completely different island up there.
โจ Don't stay in Kuta unless you specifically want that energy. Most people don't.
โจ Don't underestimate the cost of activities. Budget for experiences, not just accommodation.
Bali solo is one of the great travel experiences.
Go slow.
Stay curious.
